We operate a small college-like campus in Fair Oaks that houses many of our students full-time. We are seeking an intermediate-level Accountant who thrives in a collaborative environment. The Accountant is responsible
for performing hands-on accounting functions in the areas of financial statement preparation, accounts payable, revenue billing, analyzing the company’s accounts, monitoring the budget, and ensuring compliance with financial reporting and standard accounting procedures. Meristem is a 501(c)3 non-profit organization; thus, experience with non-profit accounting, including grant and functional expense allocation, is strongly preferred.

Status:               Exempt, Full-time
Schedule:          Monday–Friday 8:00 am – 5:00 pm

                         
Our compensation shows how much we value our team!

Salary:             $78,000-$81,000 annually, depending on experience  

Job Responsibilities:
  • Assist with the preparation of monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements
  • Analyze financial data and prepare monthly account reconciliations
  • Manage accounts payable, debit, and credit card functions
  • Collaborate with other departments to support financial initiatives and budgeted expenses versus actual performance
  • Assist with accounts receivable billing for tuition, donors, and grantees
  • Support/backup the Payroll function in processing payroll, reconciling payroll to the general ledger, and reviewing benefit-related expenses
  • Monitor, follow, and suggest improvements to the organization’s internal controls
  • Prepare, review, and upload monthly journal entries for the month-end close
  • Perform other duties as asked for and directed by the Director of Finance
Qualifications:
  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting
  • 5-10 years of accounting experience, including accounts payable, accounts receivable, reconciliations, variance analysis, and basic financial statement preparation
  • Basic knowledge of GAAP and internal controls
  • Proficiency with QuickBooks and Excel
  • Experience utilizing QuickBooks Online
  • Strong interpersonal skills
  • Ability to engage with diverse perspectives impartially.

  • Exceptional communication, time management, and organizational abilities
  • Ability to actively engage in research and employ evidence-based assessment methods
  • Adept at self-reflection and continuous improvement
  • Interact effectively with young adults on the autism spectrum
  • Non-profit experience - strongly preferred
